Why Usborne Books?

You will love these books!  Your kids will love these books!

They are beautiful, high quality, and visually appealing. As if that wasn't enough - the content is fabulous as well.

Your children will WANT to read these books, and they will enjoy looking at them and reading them so much that they won't even realize how much they're learning.

Peter Usborne started this company about 30 years ago, and his goal was to publish books that competed with TV and video games for children's attention. In order to do that, he knew the books really needed to be something else.

It wouldn't matter in the least how great the content of a book was if the child doesn't pick it up - so he found several unique ways to ensure that these books would be your child's first pick from the book shelf.

First of all, many of the books have a double page layouts, with big, bright, beautiful illustrations. This maximizes the entire two pages so that the child is drawn into the book through the pictures.

Next, many books, including craft and cookbooks, provide step-by-step instructions complete with pictures, so that children can follow along easily even if they're just learning to read. This encourages the child to be more independent, helps them to succeed, and therefore boosts their confidence.

There is a wide selection of lift the flap, and cut-away illustrations so children can actually "see inside" their bodies, countries, castles, the sea, fairyland - and many more!

Internet linked books provide links to relevant, approved websites, with pictures, videos, and games on various subjects. These links are updated regularly by Usborne researchers.

Many non-fiction titles provide knowledge in "bite sized pieces". This means there is straightforward text, often just a sentence or two, consistently positioned below each picture, simplifying reading.

There is a high picture to text ratio, the child is not overwhelmed and they have a visible end in sight.

The use of short sentences encourages the child to read, which is exactly what we want!
